Fundraising

The magnetic personality of a title holder helps to attract people’s attention and to sensitize the public about targeted social problems. This in turn helps raise funds for their eradication. The cause differs from place to place depending on the local problems. The title holder of Miss Fashion Vs Beauty Pageant has to help raise funds or promote awareness for Bobath Wales and help the lesser privileged. This can be attending events or promoting awareness online such as re- tweeting/ sharing content.

Miss Fvb 2013 set a great example by starting off her very own 'No Body Criticism' campaign. Christina's hard efforts can be clearly seen everywhere online. We have ever had such a socially active PR and marketing queen. Her efforts will be a hard one to follow.

The ‘All that Glitters’ series is her second collection and started when she stumbled upon some unusual woolen fabric with shots of multi-coloured threads running threw it. This set her mind racing with ideas of how to juxtapose the heavy thick wool with the delicate chiffons, experimenting with simple shapes, yet playing with drape and colour with shots of gold to create different effects. This is Emiah’s first ready-to-wear collection and will be on sale later on this year.

Emiah has also decided to show a sneak peek of her new ‘Lichen’ collection which features garments including corsetry and lingerie using delicate silk chiffons and couture lace’s. This is set to be launched later on next year.

LAUREN TAYLOR

PERSONAL OVERVIEW

Lauren Taylor is currently a fourth year Fashion Design student at the University of South Wales.  She has returned to her final year of study after completing a year in industry working at fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen and Fyodor Golan where she has been trained in women’s wear design and pattern cutting.
LAUREN TAYLOR – COLLECTION CONCEPT

The collection of three designs uses the theme  “Resilience” which  is incorporated perfectly with the twists and emerging coils  of the garments which adapt and stretch around the body.
Beginning with the phrase “infinitesimal gradations” meaning extremes of sizes, helped to create distorted shapes that could be used  as features to the collection such as the elongated sleeves, neck and enlarged chest pieces against the body to incorporate the theme.

The garments were created to be worn differently every time they are worn which updates and  gives the garment longevity,  becoming an  important piece  of a woman’s wardrobe.
The garments give the customer a chance to be creative as they can twist, turn and knot the garments in any way they like, letting them style and update their wardrobe each time.

BIJOU VOLANT BY MENNA WILLIAMS

The name of the collection derives from the French translation of ‘flying jewel’, a descriptive byname for the smallest bird in the world, the hummingbird. Even with their miniscule size, they possess approximately 940 feathers. This is figuratively represented in the tiny stitches upon each hummingbird featured in the collection. Bijou Volant consists of five garments, two dresses and three skirts. The colour variety in the collection is resonant of the bird’s reliance upon colour, as they have no sense of smell. The bird’s grace and fragility is found inspirational and admirable among many different cultures. They are a totem for simplicity, joy, independence and resiliency. Poet Pablo Neruda wrote of the bird in his poem ‘Ode to the Hummingbird’:

'From scarlet to powdered gold, to blazing yellow, to the rareashen emerald, to the orange and black velvet of your shimmering corselet, out to the tipthat likean amber thornbegins you, small, superlative being, you are a miracle, and you blaze’.

Fairwell from Miss FVB 2013 - Off to Thailand

Hello everyone,

I hope you all will excuse this very delayed post. The past weeks have been hectic and, as I’m sure every individual appreciate, life isn’t just glamorous. I’ve now moved out and am about to leave the UK to do several months of volunteering. With that, I’m writing this post as my goodbye to the Miss Fashion vs Beauty family and its faithful audiences.

The day I won Miss Fashion vs Beauty overall winner 2013 I posted a post saying ‘Have you ever had a moment you could say that’s when everything changed?’ and that moment truly was it for me. I’ve met so many nice people both through networking and events, I’ve had many opportunities coming my way whether or not I could take them because of my masters, and I’ve had the chance to support many important causes. What has been my proudest achievement is starting the nobodyshame campaign for this year’s competition with Miss FvB’s beloved director. Unfortunately, due to time limitations I could not take it as far as I wished to take it during the last weeks before the competition. However, that being said, I was immensely proud when interviewing the 2014 participants and many of them would refer to the #nobodyshame when describing what they liked the most about this unique pageant competition. To emphasize that Miss FvB is against body shaming and show our support to nobodyshame was the ultimate objective of the campaign so I’m pleased that came through. I hope Miss Fashion vs Beauty 2014 will pick on from where I will be leaving the campaign this year and to make it even grander for next year.

I thank you all for the memories and wish you a pleasant year in my absence!

Director sign off:

Thanks so much Christina for being such a great queen. You have represented your crown very well over the past year. Running campaigns and promoting many different charities. I have learnt a great deal from you, about PR and marketing. Wishing you all the best in Thailand. I know that you will make a great difference helping out at the children's orphanage. We will look forward to lot's of pictures of your trip.

All the best Nyomi xxx
